Riga greenhouses are highly insulated and need less heat than thinner polycarbonate models, but cold-climate growers still add supplemental heat for year-round or warm crops. Electric heaters are safest and most recommended: ~1,500 W for ‘S’ models, 1,500–3,000 W for Standard/Black, and larger 13,000–17,500 BTU (often 220 V) units for XLs. Propane or gas heaters work for bigger structures or off-grid sites but require continuous ventilation. Target 50–55 °F nights for cool crops, use thermostats plus circulating fans, and add thermal mass (e.g., water barrels) to cut runtime. Match the system to your goals—from frost protection to full winter production.
